Hardly anyone read or reacted to my post this weekend, but that is fine. These diaries are more cathartic at this point than anything. But, I have an update. I traded texts with my daughter the Wellesley senior yesterday and she indicated that one of the young men in the truck is the son of one of Babson’s major donors. It seems there is even a building named after dear old dad. So, needless to say, the chances of these two young men getting an appropriate punishment seem remote at best. So their giggling on their Snap Chat post seems justified. Not only did they not get arrested, but other than a strong, meaningless “talking to,” this event will fade out of memory for us bystanders and the bullies will wear their foray as a badge of honor amongst their classmates. We cannot keep doing this folks. We cannot let this behavior go on unchallenged and forgotten within the space of a news cycle. Yet, you know it will. And 20 years later these two guys will be at a Babson social drinking beers and laughing about that time they spit on a bunch of nerds going to Wellesley.
