I am in my forties. In fact in a couple of weeks I will turn 42 years old. I have been working since I was 21 in the education field, first as a teacher, then as an assessment specialist in special education, then in state government, and finally, back into the special education assessment arena. I have a wife who is in the education field too, and is currently a dyslexia specialist. She took about seven years off to stay at home with our three children when they were under school-age. She also has worked since her early twenties.
We have a solid middle class life. We have a house, two vehicles, a dog and credit card debt. If one of us loses our jobs, we are screwed and will have to rely on retirement savings and family. And, we are under attack. Not just us, our fellow forty-year olds, whether they realize it or not, are under attack. The question of course is what do we do about it?
