More Dispatches from San Antonio: Our Neighbors Think Kim Jong-Un is Better than Us

So I’m enjoying my summer Friday (I get Fridays off in the summer by working my 40 Monday through Thursday), and I check the Facebook account. (Ugghh, I know, Facebook. I’ve got to get off of it.) A woman I was friends with — notice the past tense there —  and had worked with for a solid four years posted some typical propaganda that just shows how deep in a pile of dung we are.

So this woman is really a nice person. She and I worked together for a charter school group (yes, I can tell you what some charter schools are really like after subjecting myself to that world). We did our best to make sure the schools were compliant with federal and state special education laws. She really cared about students and families and was not afraid to make unpopular decisions. Long story short, she and I both exited the charter school system and made our ways back to the traditional public schools. She happened to take a job at the high school where my children attended. She made a point to keep up with me on Facebook and also kept track of my kids at the high school. She then moved on to an administrative role at another school and my interaction with her was limited to liking each other’s posts on rare occasions.

So yesterday in my feed I see a post with Kim Jong-Un’s face on it. It states a rhetorical question: Why can’t Democrats negotiate with Republicans and the President if Kim Jong-Un can? Now, I am not going to waste time and space breaking down the stupidity of that question. But, it just points out that rank and file Republican voters, some really solid people in some cases, are brainwashed by this nonstop barrage of propaganda. And, it goes to show that their concept of Democrats is that of the “real enemy.”

My first reaction was to unfriend her. I did, but should I have confronted her instead? Yeah, I freaking hate what we as a nation have become. Some of my “friends” think my political party is on par with North Korean dictators.
